On Tuesday 19th December learners and members of staff were treated to Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, cooked and served by Andrew and Declan – R.E.A.L. Alternative Provision School (RAPS) Catering and Hospitality learners.
Chloe and Stani joined Declan and Andrew the day before the dinner to prepare the food as well as providing normal service at RAPS Towers Cafe.
After all the preparation on Monday and a busy Tuesday morning cooking, around 35 full Christmas meals (including starters and puddings) were served to very grateful diners at the Woodhouse Road hub in Mansfield.
All the hard work paid off – not only by having very satisfied customers, but also because the dinner covered value criteria for both Declan’s Level 1 BTEC Certificate and Andrew’s Level 2 NVQ Diploma. It also gave them both essential real work environment experience.
Michelle Keeling, Hospitality Lead Tutor at R.E.A.L. said: “The standard set by these learners with the preparation, production and service of this Christmas meal was extremely high, and they thoroughly deserved the praise given to them on the day.
“Andrew and Declan worked tirelessly, professionally and with the support of Yolande Mccusker, were a credit to R.E.A.L. and the qualification we are delivering at Woodhouse Road. They made me proud.”
