The Learning Journey

Establishing a Pathway

Once a student has applied to join us, they will be visited by a member of our assessment team, who will liaise with home and school and undertake literacy and numeracy level testing, along with reading and spelling age tests.

This will enable us to:

  1. Have an accurate assessment of where the individual student is academically.
  2. Accurately measure and track progress.
  3. Ensure a curriculum that provides stretch and challenge.
  4. Once the testing is complete, appoint a learning manager who will then work with all stakeholders to customize an agreed curriculum pathway for the student that follows the curriculum model.

The school shall offer Edexcel functional skills qualification from entry level 1 through to Level 2. Edexcel GCSE options in Maths and English will be used appropriately to stretch students. It would be our clear intention to progress as many students as possible through to GCSE. The schemes of work and syllabus content have been designed and tested within existing alternative provision. With ICT we will also offer Edexcel functional skills at entry level 1,2,3 and level 1 and 2 with the offer of OCR nationals at levels 1 and 2. Vocational studies will be linked to recognized national accreditation up to level 2.
