R.E.A.L. Farming @Goose Paddock has been recognised at the School Farm Awards 2018. The awards recognise the achievements of school farms, their schools and students from across the country.

The Junior Pig Club Conservation Programme (which R.E.A.L. takes part in) won the award for Best School Farms Project 2018.

As part of the Junior Pig Club Conservation Programme (the Junior Pig Club is a branch of the British Pig Association and aims to encourage young people into learning about and keeping pigs – particularly pedigree native breeds), R.E.A.L. takes care of two rare breed Middle White pigs – donated to the school by the Junior Pig Club. Recently one of these pigs farrowed 11 piglets which will help other schools start up their own breeding herds and help support the endangered Middle White pig population in the U.K.

Dan Bedward, R.E.A.L. Farming Provision Leader, said: โ€œWe are so proud of what we have achieved at Goose Paddock in such a short space of time. The pigs are always a huge draw to all of our learners who are keen to engage with these large docile and friendly animals.

โ€œReceiving an award for being part of the Junior Pig Club Conversation Programme is really fantastic.โ€
