Gear up for a career in mechanics

A mechanics course from R.E.A.L is an ideal stepping stone for a career in the motor vehicle industry.

Located at our City Hub site, Sneinton Mechanics offers both Entry Level and Level 1 Vehicle Maintenance qualifications approved by the motor industry body: The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).

Young people get an unbeatable experience in our garage workshop, working on real cars and motorbikes, and using the tools and technologies you would expect to see in the workplace.

The site has just recently expanded and learners can now also enrol on the IMI Level 1 in Electric Vehicle Maintenance.

James Milnes, Site Manager, said: “Technology in the industry is moving fast with the growth of electric vehicles and so we’re excited that we’ve been able to start delivering this new qualification alongside our existing provision.”

Students attending this site learn the basic mechanical skills needed to work in the motor vehicle repair industry. They also have a chance to learn about communication skills, working individually and as part of a team.

Staff at R.E.A.L. take a person-centred approach to engagement and learning; this means they are able to bring out the best in each individual student. The incredible teachers at Sneinton Mechanics embrace this approach with all of their learners, to skillfully prepare them for their future workplace. Students develop both personally and professionally, enabling them to take their important next steps to progress to further education, training or employment.

James Milnes, Site Manager, said:

“The highlight this year has been the students who have made incredible progress in their studies with us and found success in either college or employment, despite personal barriers and the challenges of learning during a pandemic.

“From a very driven HGV apprentice, who has to be told to stop working and go home…to a fledgling arts student who has found the confidence to pursue an ambition…we are so proud of the hard work and determination of our students and teachers during this time.”
