R.E.A.L. Adventures!

R.E.A.L. Adventure have been busy recently!

An exciting arm of R.E.A.L. Education, R.E.A.L. Adventure operates adventurous activities for learners and schools, as well as private and corporate groups. The provision offers a range of outdoor and adventure qualifications and awards.

Over the Spring Term, a fantastic 35 students achieved Aim Awards, with a further six students currently working towards a BTEC Level 2 in Sport and Leisure (due to complete in the summer).

Zac Holland, Group Provision Manager for R.E.A.L. Adventure, who has worked in the outdoor industry since 1986, said: “Our courses are outdoor led and we work with learners to develop their life skills, communication and confidence.

“We’ve had a great start to the year with the Aim Awards achievements and learners progressing onto higher level qualifications. We have some really ambitious students with us at the moment, who are actively pursuing careers in the adventure industry.”

R.E.A.L. Adventure carries out a number of activities with R.E.A.L. learners, including kayaking, abseiling, caving, mountain biking and bushcraft. Activities for learners can be part of a structured course (such as a BTEC qualification), the R.E.A.L. befriending service, or as a general activity.

Zac said: “Over the last couple of months we’ve had groups heading out to Derbyshire to find new caves and lead mines to explore. We’ve also had groups from Nanpantan Hub heading down to Beacon Hill and Hicks Lodge in Leicestershire for climbing, mountain biking, orienteering and shelter building.

“With the arrival of warmer weather, we will be spending a fair bit of time on the water kayaking and paddle boating.

“We’ve also invested in lots of new kit and equipment, which we’re looking forward to using with learners.”

R.E.A.L. Adventure has recently been inspected and awarded its licence through the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA). Zac said: “Our AALA licence needs to be renewed every three years. We’re pleased to say that we passed our re-inspection to a high standard!”

An exciting new development is that R.E.A.L. Adventure is launching a mountain bike club for R.E.A.L. employees on a Tuesday evening. You don’t need to have your own bike to take part. Anyone interested should contact Zac.
