R.E.A.L. is delighted to have developed a collaboration between the Oasis Community and Church Centre in Worksop and the R.E.A.L. Hub at Sandhills.
As R.E.A.L. staff and learners returned after the summer break, it was necessary for the R.E.A.L. Hub at Sandhills to try and secure an additional venue space to ensure that they were Covid-19 safe within the Hub, and to keep numbers within the risk assessed maximum capacity. Like elsewhere, many community venues had been closed, so this was proving somewhat of a challenge!
Huge thanks go to one of our tutors, Karen Dye, who is local to Worksop and took on the challenge! Karen made contact with the Oasis Centre and then visited manager Steve Williams to discuss using the space for the delivery of R.E.A.L. provision. The Oasis Centre is aptly named – as the grounds are truly an oasis – and Steve could not have been more welcoming to the idea of some of our learners using the centre.
We’ve heard that those who have visited the Oasis Centre and are now using the space, love it. The centre’s generosity did not end here though! Steve had previously made successful applications to a range of charities, including: The Coalfields Regeneration Trust, NCC, The National Lottery and Children in Need to help him fund a ‘Food For Life’ hampers project, which aimed to help individuals and families through the tough times being experienced by many as a result of the pandemic.
Steve very generously offered a hamper to every child at R.E.A.L. To date, 45 hampers have been delivered to some families in Worksop and Newark and a further 40 have been delivered to City Hub for distribution. The attached photos show R.E.A.L. staff and learners, Steve, and other community users collecting the quality hampers ready for distribution.
It is hoped that some of our local learners can join the team to help with packing the hampers as a valuable introduction to work experience and volunteering. Our amazing tutor Karen has already set the bar high though, by giving up the first week of half term to help pack the hampers herself!
A big thank you from all of us at R.E.A.L. to Steve at the Oasis Centre for his ongoing support and generosity. It’s great to see the positive outcome of the current COVID-19 crisis being the development of exciting new partnerships. What a fabulous example of the benefits of community links, demonstrating that we are stronger by working together with a shared approach.
