R.E.A.L. Construction Training Academy Launch
Last month over 50 delegates from across the education and construction sectors attended the launch of the R.E.A.L. Construction Training Academy at Portland College in Mansfield.
Steve Quinn, Joint Managing Director. for R.E.A.L. Education outlined the plans for working in collaboration with surrounding local authorities, industry partners, the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and other third party agencies to address the skills shortage faced regionally by the industry.
Andy Abrahams a qualified civil engineer and maths tutor at R.E.A.L. Education, set out the details of a new Construction Infrastructure Level 1 BTEC qualification that R.E.A.L. has developed. The qualification is awaiting ratification by Pearson’s so it can be taught at the academy and recognised nationally as a pathway into a career in civil engineering.
The academy will enable R.E.A.L. learners to gain ‘real life’ experience training on site, whilst gaining new infrastructure qualifications that will lead to apprenticeships and well paid careers in the industry.
Pilot courses and ‘taster sessions’ will run from September 2019 with a full roll out of many construction trades from January 2020 onwards.
