R.E.A.L. Farming @Goose Paddock

In September, R.E.A.L. Education will be opening our new R.E.A.L. Farming @Goose Paddock learning hub.

Based in Annesley and set in 11.5 acres of farm and woodland, Goose Paddock will offer a bespoke Key Stage 2 through to Key Stage 5 curriculum centred around all things nature and farming.

Since the start of the summer term, R.E.A.L. staff and learners have been working tirelessly at Goose Paddock. A tired old caravan has been successfully transformed into a fully functioning learning hub with two classroom pods and a kitchen rest area. R.E.A.L. Construction learners have created a covered structure for washing facilities and the storage of farm workwear.

Animals currently at Goose Paddock include Whitefaced Woodland sheep and ewe lambs, Middle White pigs and piglets, geese and rare breed chickens. From September, the menagerie will quickly grow to accommodate the delivery of the animal care curriculum.

R.E.A.L. Farming Provision Lead, Dan Bedward said: “We are able to offer some fantastic packages to meet the needs of the young people who are referred to us. Our Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 learners will access our bespoke curriculum, designed to incorporate key elements of the National Curriculum whilst encompassing the principles of our “farm to fork” and sustainability ethos.

“Key Stage 4 and 5 learners can choose from number of different qualifications including; BTEC Entry Level Land-Based Studies or Caring for Farm Animals, BTEC Level 1 and 2 Animal Care or Horticulture, as well as the new AIM Awards Suite of Vocational Pathways Qualifications (AIMVOC) awards in Animal Care or Horticulture.

“Goose Paddock is an incredibly peaceful place. It also provides a perfect haven for those more vulnerable individuals that we support at R.E.A.L.”
