Testing Expands to Second Site
R.E.A.L. has opened a second Covid-19 asymptomatic testing centre, based at the Rutland Sports Park in Ilkeston.
This second test centre opened its doors on Thursday 11th February and provides important testing facilities for R.E.A.L. staff and learners based in our southern localities of Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire. The expansion to a second testing centre builds upon the success of our first asymptomatic testing centre, which opened at Pleasley in January this year.
Mark Spencer, Head of Health, Safety and Environment at R.E.A.L. said: “The expansion of our rapid lateral flow testing sites for R.E.A.L. staff and learners is an important milestone, enabling us to reliably and effectively keep our settings open for those learners who need us.
“About one in three people who have coronavirus have no symptoms, allowing it to spread without us knowing. Lateral flow tests are a vital tool that detect asymptomatic cases of Covid-19 and help break the chain of transmission.
“It has taken a phenomenal effort from everyone to get these sites up and running quickly and effectively. We are ever grateful to our staff and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to get these sites operational as soon as possible.”
The Rutland Sports Park testing centre is open every Thursday offering free testing to staff, students and the wider school community, for people without symptoms only. Anyone with symptoms should book an NHS test. The testing centre is not open to members of the public.
Kay Carter, Head of Safeguarding at R.E.A.L., said: “The safety and wellbeing of our staff and learners is our utmost priority at R.E.A.L.. Rapid, regular testing provides reassurance to our staff and learners that we are doing everything we can to keep them, their families, and the wider community safe.”
